Aran is proud to have supplied equipment to two projects that received recognition at the Queensland Engineering Awards this year. The annual Australian Engineering Excellence Awards celebrate the accomplishments of some of the finest engineering companies and individuals in the world. The National Awards showcase leaders in the profession along with world class engineering and innovation.

Teviot Brook, MT Joyce, Queensland, Australia

The Wyaralong dam was the smaller of two dams proposed to provide a secure water supply for South East Queensland.  The Traveston Crossing dam did not proceed on environmental grounds.

Design and construction of the dam was carried out the Wyaralong Dam Alliance.  The alliance partner Wagners was responsible for the quarrying, crushing and mixing of the 180,000 cubic metres of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC).

An Aran MODUMIX modular continuous mixing plant previously used to construct the Paradise Dam on the Burnett River also in Queensland was redeployed for this project.

Designers SMEC, Hydro Tasmania, and Paul C Rizzo & Associates opted for a mix using pre-blended aggregate.

Aran MODUMIX II plants were originally configured for RCC dam applications and have contributed to the successful construction of dams both large and small around the world.

With an output of up to 400 cubic metres per hour, the Aran plant ensured that RCC was available to meet the placement schedule.

Aran International Pty Ltd congratulates the Wyaralong Dam Alliance Team on their achievement and is proud to be part of that success.

Redbank, Queensland, Australia

The main road corridor between Brisbane & Ipswich to the west has struggled to handle the traffic volumes for some years.  This is part of the main inland road corridor from Brisbane to all major southern capitals including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth to the west.  Options including a diversion to the north side of the Brisbane River where road foundation conditions were more favourable were canvassed.  The alternative route on the southern side of the river passes over a matrix of old underground coal mines dating back to 1865 which were largely uncharted.

Subsidence had already occurred in some nearby residential areas.
The decision in late 2007 to fast track construction across the old workings required the filling of abandoned coal mines to provide protection to the Ipswich Motorway between Dinmore and Goodna against future subsidence.

The project was handled by the Origin Alliance formed from The Queensland Department of Main Roads, Abigroup Contractors, Fulton Hogan, Seymour Whyte, Parsons Brinckerhoff and SMEC.  A sub alliance was formed with Keller Mine Fill to handle the mine fill.

The volumes, configuration and connectivity of the old stopes were largely unknown.

It was decided to use waste wet flyash from the Swanbank power station combined with crusher dust, cement and additive to form a flowable paste.

Origin Alliance turned to Aran International Pty Ltd for a paste fill mixing plant.  Aran has taken a global leadership position in modular paste fill plants and is widely recognised for its diversity of application experience.

The Aran MODUMIX Mine Fill plant was specially configured to load agitator trucks for delivery of paste to the fill points.

Fully modular Aran paste fill plants utilize precise cement metering systems developed by Aran and mix the ingredients in a paste specific Aran FlexiClean continuous mixer.   The mining plant produced 180m3 per hour of paste with a total of 140,000m3 produced for the project.

Adopting a well developed Aran system allowed this aspect of the project to be fast tracked with no risk.

Aran International Pty Ltd congratulates The Origin Keller sub Alliance on recognition of their achievement and is proud to be part of that success.
