Leading minerals processing provider Sedgman Limited has opened a new office in Shanghai specifically providing detailed drafting capability. The office provides Sedgman and its clients globally with complete detailing, fabrication, quality control and logistics delivery services.
Previously Sedgman outsourced this function but with the expansion of their global project pipeline there was a growing need for flexibility and access to experienced detailed drafters. Experienced Detailed Drafting Manager, Russell Neal, manages quality, constructability and safety of design.
“We recognised the benefit of having an in-house specialist drafting service,” Peter Long, Executive General Manager Asia said. “We put together a team with international project experience who can deliver steel details to Australia’s high standards. The benefits to our clients will be significant, we can offer a cost effective solution and we will monitor quality from start to finish.”
The establishment of the drafting office follows the setup of Sedgman’s Asian Procurement Hub operating from their Beijing office. The Procurement Hub supplies processing equipment including fabricated steel, wear resistant piping and major electrical components, taking advantage of Asian prices while maintaining high quality.
Both the Shanghai Detailing office and the Beijing Procurement Hub offer welcome support as Sedgman’s continues to grow globally. The company is winning repeat business in the major emerging resource sectors of Mozambique and Mongolia and Sedgman’s involvement in the Ukhaa Khudag (UHG) project for Energy Resources LLC (a subsidiary of the Mongolian Mining Corporation) has seen Sedgman emerging as a significant player in Mongolia and Asia.
Sedgman has delivered the first coal handling and preparation plant in the region, where the remote Mongolian conditions put their ingenuity to the test. Proving they can build a coal plant anywhere, Sedgman housed the plant within a purpose-built, insulated building to withstand the extremes of temperature in the South Gobi desert.
“Our involvement in the UHG project has been very rewarding. We have proven we can deliver in the toughest of environments and established a good relationship with Mongolian Mining Corporation,” said Mr Long. “Expanding our capability in Shanghai and Beijing will only strengthen Sedgman’s ability to deliver projects anywhere in the world.”
