Technology evolves over time, and so does mining. Sites that once used only 218 tonne class trucks and smaller are now seeing mixed fleets of 218 tonne, 290 tonne and 360 tonne class machines operating together. This creates many new truck interactions which were not seen before, such as queuing at loading and dumping areas, scheduling for fuel refills, and faster trucks being slowed by slower trucks on ramps, to name a few. There can be numerous situations where truck interactions adversely affect fleet production and impede the mine from fully benefiting on the investment of new machines while capitalizing on the final years’ life of old machines.
Runge Ltd, a leader in technology, software and consulting services, has provided the industry with a line of software packages to assist with all phases of mine planning and financial modeling since the 1980s. TALPAC, the industry standard for truck and loader production simulations, has evolved over the years to include many new features and a vast equipment database to allow virtually any truck and loader combination to be simulated. Runge’s latest product in development, Haul Network, is designed to provide the next step in haul profile simulations. Haul Network is a haul profile evaluation tool which will use the same equipment database as TALPAC. Multiple source and destinations, as well as stop signs, speed restricted areas, fuel refill locations and other areas of truck congestion will be analysed to determine which areas create congestion. Extremely visual in nature, Haul Network will create a vibrant graphical network of the haul profiles available for the user to see just how each profile routes to the different dumpsites located around the mine. Being able to process and streamline multitudes of x-y-z data to create easy to use haul profiles, the combination of Haul Network and TALPAC will create a powerful package of software programs to build on the existing industry standard for haul profile simulations. The combination of TALPAC and Haul Network will help mines understand why they are seeing lower production due to equipment interactions and what to do to bring back down their cost per tonne.
