Renowned Suspended Dump Body (SDB) manufacturer, Duratray International, recently established a new facility in Mackay to cover the heightened activity and growth of their product in the Bowen Basin.

Renowned Suspended Dump Body (SDB) manufacturer, Duratray International, recently established a new facility in Mackay to cover the heightened activity and growth of their product in the Bowen Basin.

The Suspended Dump Body (SDB) is a unique concept design where the conventional steel floor and any associated wear plates, are replaced by a rubber mat suspended on elastomeric ropes anchored to the steel frame of the body. The entire system is capable of carrying from 30 to 380 tonnes.

With particular success in providing a solution to carry back problems faced by a number of operations in the region, Duratray believed establishing a facility was critical to growth and support of the product.

In response to the current booming mining industry in Queensland, Duratray will be focusing on established customers all over the Bower Basin such as BMA, where the company has a strong presence with the SDB’s, offering low maintenance costs and a solution for carry back. Also, the company will be looking for potential projects and opportunities in the region.

Duratray provides field and customer service in the major coal producing region which gathers around 50 mining projects estimated at $25 billion.

The new corporate premises are located at Unit 10, 70 Connors Road, Paget, Mackay and was officially opened on September 2.The facility is capable to store components used in the SDB out of the weather until required onsite installation.

The storage area and office facility will also double as a training room as part of the continued support for training of both clients and staff located in the region. The opportunity to have the components on the ground will provide a great
opportunity to break down the product and provide detailed training prior to working on site.

At the opening, regional manager for the east coast Chris Killian, who co-ordinated the custom design and premises fit out, welcomed customers and suppliers to kick off the operations in Queensland.

“The new office in Mackay enables us to better service the clients in the region as well easily monitor performance and provide support,” Mr Killian said. “A warehouse has also been incorporated in the facility which will be used for storing parts to ensure components are readily available for maintenance and same day service if required”.

“The ability to provide fast service for spare parts is the key to Duratray SDB support in the region.”Duratray Customer Service Representative Rodrigo Lefranc, who also helped celebrate the opening and will be based in Mackay to service clients, said the new office location would provide great site exposure and presence in the region.

“Being located in Mackay allows us to work closely with customers and suppliers whom requested our continuous presence in the region and also, it creates better working relationships,” Mr Lefranc said. Duratray International was formed 10 years ago in Australia and currently it’s operating globally on mine and quarry haul trucks in more than 25 countries.
