CEO Leadership Lunch featuring The Hon. Mark Vaile AO, Chairman and Independent Non-executive Director of Whitehaven Coal

Please contact Megan Edwards if you wish to attend this event

Austmine invites you to our exclusive CEO Leadership Lunch with The Hon. Mark Vaile AO, Chairman and Independent non-executive Director of Whitehaven Coal. As a previous Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Leader of the National Party, Mark has an extensive network of contacts throughout Australia and East Asia. It is through this experience that Mark has the biggest impact as the Chairman of Whitehaven Coal.

Whitehaven Coal’s prime focus is to ensure coal production can be maintained and the company achieves its production targets provided to the market. They do this by utilising new technologies once they have been tested by the market, ensuring that the risks are somewhat reduced.

Examples of technology that has been utilised by Whitehaven Coal to great effect are:

  • At Maules Creek the use of ultra class equipment – trucks and excavators, has increased productivity and reduced costs to levels not anticipated before the mine commenced production.
  • Whitehaven Coal also introduced a new explosives provider to the Gunnedah basin. Their provider used a unique technology which has lowered the amount of explosives used and improved fragmentation of the blasted material. The use of the explosives has also contributed to improved productivity of the mining fleet and lowered costs.
  • At Narrabri their longwall is fully automated, one of the first in Australia to be equipped with computerised operating system which enables horizon control and high rates of productivity. A clear example of this was the 8.0Mt produced at Narrabri in CY2015. In addition the mine has consistently outperformed its original design capacity.

The next move will be the adoption of autonomous trucks at the open cut mines. The ultra-lass equipment operating at Maules Creek can be retrofitted with the equipment once the equipment supplier is confident on the productivity levels of the system.

If you wish to attend this CEO Leadership Lunch and participate in an intimate, closed-door conversation with one of the industry’s leaders, please email Helen.Warner@Austmine.com.au to register.
