Increasing Efficiency and Production with Cavex® Hydrocyclones
Cavex® hydrocyclone outperforms the competition and achieves a 36% improvement in mill circuit production performance
The Tharisa Mine in North West province of South Africa was operating 510mm flat bottom competitor cyclones fitted onto their secondary mill circuit clusters. The competitor’s cyclones were cutting too coarse, were inefficient and experiencing a low mass split to the underflow.
To improve efficiency and production, Weir Minerals installed one Cavex® 500CVX hydrocyclone on the competitor’s cluster to compare performance. After the trial, the data confirmed that the Cavex® hydrocyclone outperformed the incumbent competitor cyclone.
The results revealed a 36% improvement compared to the competitor cyclone, and the payback period for the cluster change out to Cavex® hydrocyclone technology was only 29 days.
Following the trial, the competitor cyclones were removed and the 13 way cluster was fitted with Cavex® hydrocyclones.
