METS Ignited Announces New Chair

METS Ignited Announces New Chair

METS Ignited is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Lyle Bruce as the new Chair of the METS Ignited Board.

Mr Bruce’s appointment follows the decision by Elizabeth Lewis-Gray to move to the position of Deputy Chair of the Board.

It is with great pleasure that we announce Lyle’s appointment,’’ Ms Lewis-Gray said.

“Lyle has been serving as a Director on the METS Ignited Board since May 2017and has played a significant role in shaping the direction of the organisation. We are confident he will continue to do so in this new leadership position,” she said.

Ms Lewis-Gray has made the difficult decision  to step down from the role to focus on her business Gekko Systems.  She remains fully committed to the Industry Growth Centre and continuing to support and grow the Australian METS sector.

She said the Board of Directors sought a Chair who could supply the requisite industry knowledge and leadership acumen to support METS Ignited’s strategic development.

“Lyle’s skills and experience in the mining and METS sector ensures he is well positioned to lead METS Ignited as it implements initiatives that accelerate commercialisation of world-class innovation and grows exports.”

Mr Bruce has been a leader in the mining and METS sector for 35 years. He is currently Chair of two Australian mining technology companies (MineWare and Blast Movement Technologies), an advisor to others, and a partner of Jolimont GMS, a specialist investor in mining technology companies.

Mr Bruce was CEO of GroundProbe for ten years, taking this Australian mining technology from university research to commercial success, becoming the world leader in mine slope stability monitoring. He previously held roles with Mount Isa Mine and Rio Tinto, including running MIM Process Technologies.

Winner of several awards, including E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year and the Warren Centre Hero of Innovation, Mr Bruce is passionate about technology implementation and commercialisation, and building the Australian METS sector.

Mr Bruce said he was honoured to be picking up the baton from Ms Lewis-Gray, who has served as Chair since the Growth Centre’s inception in 2015.

“Following the Australian Government’s decision to establish the extremely successful Industry Growth initiative, Elizabeth has worked tirelessly to build METS Ignited and promote the Australian METS sector,” Mr Bruce said.

“Australia leads the world in mining innovation and technology. We have the potential to strengthen and grow the METS sector as a major part of the Australian economy. METS Ignited is strengthening Australia’s position as a global hub for mining innovation through a program of work which both supports innovative companies and enhances an environment that supports a robust METS sector.

METS Ignited’s work is focused on accelerating commercialisation of innovation, developing the METS sector capability, growing exports and improving the regulatory environment. METS Ignited programs include funding for collaborative projects, Masterclasses to improve skills and knowledge, facilitation of industry Clusters, Accelerator programs to assist commercialisation, orchestration of industry led Cooperative Research Centres, and fostering the Australian METS sector brand.

As a government funded but independently governed Industry Growth Centre, METS Ignited has a role to play in growing the Australian METS sector and assisting many great METS companies to realise their potential. I am proud and excited to be part of this, and look forward to building on the great work that has been done in establishing the centre. Our focus now is to deliver the programs that will make a difference to the sector, with particular emphasis on supporting METS companies and collaborative projects and initiatives.”
