Canada Mining Mission Review: Opportunities in Automation, Underground Communications and Open-pit Engineering
Austmine successfully completed its second Canada Mining Mission in October 2017, leading a delegation of 9 member companies to explore opportunities in this well-established mining market.
The Australian METS delegation received excellent insights into the local mining landscape and are well positioned to capitalise on a number of opportunities arising in gold, nickel, oil sands, lithium and other base metal mines in the region. Companies on the mission included Safescape, PumpEng, Mader International, Insitu Pacific, MICROMINE, Dingo, Haultrax, Clean Oil Services and Groundprobe. Across the week, meetings were undertaken with the likes of Barrick Gold, Vale, Hatch, Stantec, XPS Glencore, Wesdome, Nordmin and the Canadian Malartic Mine, whilst a site visit to the impressive NORCAT underground Centre, North American Lithium and the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) were also on the agenda.
Whilst there is a growing number of emerging operations that will utilise open-pit mining methods, underground mines are still prevalent across Canada. This presents a number of opportunities, especially for technologies and services that can reduce costs, improve productivity and increase safety.
