Austin Engineering Wins International Award for Innovation

Australian mining equipment designer and manufacturer, Austin Engineering has won the People’s Choice award and been placed second overall by the Swedish Steel Prize jury. The awards recognise how Austin’s new two-piece excavator bucket represents a leap forward in innovation and design.

Now in its 20th year, the Swedish Steel Prize is an international award for ideas and products that have an impact on future uses of steel. The 2019 Swedish Steel Prize attracted 64 entries from 23 countries around the world. The only continent not represented was Antarctica.

Brisbane based, Austin Engineering was one of 4 finalists recognised for ground breaking engineering, cooperation and steel innovations that will lead to a better and more sustainable world. Austin’s two-piece excavator bucket was developed in response to a request from a customer for a safer, linerless bucket solution.

“We are honoured to receive a prestigious Swedish Steel Prize and the global recognition it attracts,” said Peter Forsyth, Managing Director at Austin Engineering. “The Two-Piece Excavator Bucket is a game changer. It is safe and reliable and can reduce the total ownership cost of an excavator bucket by 25-30 percent.”

The Swedish Steel Prize jury identified Austin’s modular approach to excavator bucket design and maintenance as an innovative concept that opens up opportunities for further bucket design enhancements.

This international recognition of Austin’s industry leading design, engineering and innovation capabilities follows the company being included in the annual Australian Financial Review (AFR) / Boss Magazine’s Most Innovative Companies list in August 2019. Austin’s two-piece excavator bucket came second out of 800 entries in the Agriculture, Mining and Utilities category.
