The WA METS Digital Mining Export Hub (Hub) will leverage the state’s reputation as a world leader in digital mining solutions to grow export opportunities for regional METS businesses.

Speaking about the launch, Austmine’s CEO Christine Gibbs Stewart said, “We are thrilled to launch the first dedicated METS Digital Mining Export Hub in Western Australia.”

“Australian METS are leaders in mining innovation and technology on a global scale, and this Hub will be critical in helping a diverse range of regional Western Australian SMEs transform their business to meet the digital demands of their customers and share their capabilities, expertise and unique solutions with the world.”

Austmine’s newly appointed WA METS Digital Mining Export Hub Lead Craig Banks said, “Mining suppliers are witnessing the steady roll out of digital mining technology in mine sites throughout Western Australia.”

“There is a real opportunity for regional suppliers to participate in the technology roll out, while taking part in the training, servicing and maintenance of this technology.”

“The WA Digital METS Export Hub serves to ensure WA regional suppliers are not excluded from the emergence of the digital mining industry and be included in the export of this technology and its services internationally.”

COVID-19 has accelerated innovation in mining and through participation in conversations, information and contacts available through the program, Hub members will have access to the latest digital developments and strategic insights. This will help regional businesses understand where they fit in the new digital paradigm, helping drive sustainability.

WA METS companies in Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Newman, Karratha and Port Hedland will be targeted by the initiative alongside Perth, which is at the centre of digital mining in the State with many world leading METS companies headquartered there.

Austmine will work closely with State and Federal Government partners on this project as the Hub is being funded under the Federal Government’s Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Export Hubs initiative and in partnership with the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

Following an uncertain and disruptive time for Australian exporters, the Hub will be critical in getting Western Australian businesses moving again.

Gibbs Stewart added, “We have seen the export business of a number of METS companies interrupted during this unprecedented health crisis. Offering a central platform and support network to access resources, opportunities and export knowledge will help businesses get back on track.”
