MICROMINE Appoints Dr Lobo Balia, former Senior Advisor to the Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources for Environmental & Regional Affairs as Director of MICROMINE Indonesia

MICROMINE has announced the appointment of Dr Marwansyah Lobo Balia as Director of MICROMINE Indonesia. An accomplished Senior Official of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), Republic of Indonesia, with a wide range of experience in governing, policy development and management in the public sector.

Dr Balia brings to MICROMINE an exceptional level of experience and global strategic knowledge having been with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Indonesia (previously known as the Department of Mines and Energy) since 1976, and has served in other various technical and managerial positions, including Chief of the Computing Section, Operational Manager of the TEKMIRA Computer Centre.

Regional Manager of MICROMINE Indonesia, Myke Jones said “Dr Lobo Balia is recognised as a world authority on Database GIS and mineral management systems having a resource of this quality in Micromine is a huge benefit. He also brings a can do attitude to projects and his positive enthusiasm is highly infectious.”

Dr Balia previously served as the Director of TEKMIRA – R & D Centre for Mineral and Coal Technology of MEMR, where he was responsible for managing the R & D groups for Mineral Economics, Resource Assessments, Coal and Mineral Development and Mining Technology where his responsibilities includes managing a number of National Development Projects and International Cooperation Projects related to Coal & Mineral Resources Assessments and Development.

Jones added “His experience implementing world class technology to ESDM Indonesia has been successful for over 20 years, a number of these projects MICROMINE has participated in.”

In 2011-2012 he was appointed as acting Secretary General of the National Energy Council (DEN, Dewan Energi Nasional) and in 2013 Dr Balia was awarded a National Hero Medal, by the Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for his commitment and achievement in the energy and mining sector.

More about Dr Balia:
Dr Balia holds undergraduate degree in Geology (1976) from the Academy of Geology and Mining, Indonesia and Masters of Science in Geophysics (1982) from the University of New England, Australia. He received his Doctorate in Geology (1993) from the University of New South Wales, Australia where he specialized in remote sensing methods for geological mapping and exploration. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications on a wide array of earth science topics, computer applications and assessments of mineral and energy resources.
