Michael Goodsite, Director IMER & IEP Energy, Mining & Resources, University of Adelaide
Michael E. Goodsite MBA, PhD. Professor and incoming Director of the University of Adelaide Institute for Mineral and Energy Resources (IMER) is an internationally recognised expert in the energy, mining and resources research and champions the sector as the UoA Director of Energy, Mining and Resources. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers Australia, Chartered Professional Engineer in leadership and management & Engineering Executive; a Member of AICD and AusIMM. He was Head of the University of Adelaide School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering, acting Head of the Australian School of Petroleum and the inaugural director of commercialisation at the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. He has extensive leadership experience in the public and private sector, for example as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for Regional Development of the Region of Southern Denmark. A position which included mineral and energy resources in his portfolio. He is currently on the Board of the Danish national EUDP (Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program).
Andrew Harris, Mining Analytics Consultant, Consilium Technology
Alexandra Blood, Executive Director, Mineral Resources Division, Department for Energy and Mining, Government of South Australia
Andrew Harris has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Physics. He spent the first 22 years of his career at Scantech, a company which designs and manufactures high-tech conveyor-mounted elemental and moisture analysers for the global mining industry. His experience includes data analytics, analyser calibration, on-site commissioning/servicing, product development, technical team management, R&D leadership, IP management, nurturing customers, supporting sales, and operations management. He joined AI company Consilium Technology in mid-2018 to build a Mining Analytics business unit and lead a team of data scientists and a software engineer, helping mining customers and fellow METS companies get the most value from their data and improve decision-making, through data analytics and machine learning.
Alex joined government recently from the private sector, as Executive Director, Mineral Resources, within Department for Energy and Mining. Alex has a passion for innovation and collaboration, initiating the recent SA Government ExploreSA: The Gawler Challenge; innovative Accelerated Discovery Initiative and Core Innovation Hub project as well as supporting collaborations to exploit emerging technologies and science to benefit the resource sector and government operations.
Alex’s diverse international experience spans corporate and technical roles at national and global levels for mining, infrastructure and industrial projects across Australia, Papua New Guinea, Asia-Pacific and Africa. She has worked on a range of commodity types, including gold, copper, iron, nickel, graphite and uranium.
Alex is Chair of the Australian New Zealand Board for environmental professional certification. In 2012, Alex was awarded Australian Environmental Practitioner of the Year, and has received technical awards for a range of mining and ports projects.
Katie Hulmes, General Manager Transformation and Readiness, OZ Minerals
At 37, Katie proudly represents a more than 20-year Mining Career with diverse roles as a Field Engineer, Environmental Scientist, Exploration Hydrogeologist, Approvals Manager, Scoping Study Manager, Group Environmental Lead, Project Engineer, Head of Technical Services and her current role as Head of Transformation and Readiness.
Katie’s technical skills were gained as a graduate of the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Geophysics and a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Environmental and her passion and drive stems from a curiosity and deep belief that the industry can create multi-generational change with a positive impact on our regional communities and our environment.
In 2018, Katie was awarded South Australia’s Inaugural 40 Under 40 Young Entrepreneurs Award for her contribution to the Minerals Sector and continues to charter new paths for the industry and her peers. She has shown that through partnerships and transparency you find opportunity. Katie can proudly point to initiatives that have emerged under her leadership with value created in community groups, with traditional owners, conservation organisations, research bodies, technology companies and start-ups. Importantly she takes time and commitment to continually develop both herself and her team fostering a belonging culture where people are self-empowered to thrive and grow through their work.
Katie continues to advocate for shared value and for cross sector collaboration and is currently fulfilling voluntary positions as a member of the South Australian Government Minerals and Energy Advisory Council, the University of Adelaide’s Institute of Mining and Energy Advisory Board and the Smart Satellite CRC Mining and Energy Advisory Board.
