Austmine METS Tech Talk: Setting up for Success – Optimising Mine Planning & Design

Discover the emerging mine planning and design solutions that will drive the performance of our future mines.

With so many variables in the mining environment, it is a difficult task to find a strategy that maximises the long-term value of a mining operation. Adopting a suboptimal mine plan can lead to significant value loss that is almost impossible to recoup through improvement initiatives.

Fortunately, the next wave of technologies, software packages and processes are entering the market, helping mining organisations harness key information and deliver optimal outcomes.  These are driving a holistic approach to mine planning – the first step to a profitable, productive and safe mining operation.

The Tech Talks will explore:

  • Implementing flexibility into the mine design

  • Generating and using data for effective and strategic decision-making

  • Simulating design and planning outcomes

Presentations:

Robust Strategic Mine Planning
Craig Bradley, Senior Manager, Business Transformation, Dassault Systèmes

In times of market uncertainty, your greatest strength is the confidence to act. Gain the ability to ensure the financial viability and feasibility of your strategic plans. When you can properly use your data to simulate thousands of potential scenarios, you can act on a plan that best illuminates your mine’s future.

Importance of mentorship and peer review for a successful mine plan
Richard De Leon - Senior Mining Consultant (Open Pit), Mining Plus

Image
Over many years Mining Plus has adopted the attitude of “get it right the first time”. This attitude has been realized by seeing project value eroded by poor decisions being made due to cost alone. With Mining Plus' focus on looking at the bigger picture and utilising our operations expertise, Richard will discuss how valuable it is to provide mentorship and understanding the peer review process for a successful mine plan.

Transforming mining with parametric design

Alun Phillips, Mine Planning Product Manager, RPMGlobal

Image
Parametric design successfully revolutionised the construction industry, enabling it to become more agile, profitable and efficient. In this presentation, Alun Phillips of RPMGlobal will showcase the mining industry's first parametric design solution which is laying the foundations to transform the mining industry.

Using 3D seismic data to de-risk mine plans

Greg Turner, General Manager Technical Services, HiSeis Pty Ltd

Unexpected ground conditions can have a significant impact on mining project economics.

Greg will illustrate how HiSeis’s 3D seismic surveys can map these conditions and significantly reduce project risks at a fraction of the cost of common on-the-fly alterations to mine plans resulting from the often sparse geotechnical data currently fed into mine plans.
