Austmine Sustainability Webinar Series Part 5 - Rethinking Remediation & Rehabilitation

In a world which is increasingly connected, the mining industry is under close scrutiny from communities, government and investors. The benefits from mining can be vast for all stakeholders, but the future of the industry is inextricably linked to our ability to minimise the environmental footprint and community impact of operations, while maximising economic gains.

Key to mining’s future is innovation. We must look towards creative technologies, adaptive processes and new procedures to transform mining into a sustainable and safe practice, that communities are more willing to embrace.

This webinar series will feature presentations from industry experts on the pathway to achieving sustainability for the mining industry, exploring current trends and emerging innovations that are central to our future prosperity.

The final part of Austmine’s Sustainability Series will focus on mine site remediation and rehabilitation. How mining is perceived by the public will largely be determined by the legacy operations leave far beyond their mine life. Well before operations have commenced, mining companies must consider and adopt a strategic plan for the post-mining restoration of the land, along with the transformative impact that a mine has on communities.

Experts will join this webinar to explore the current regulations surrounding mine closure and remediation. They will also profile key projects that have adopted innovative methodologies to ensuring productive use of land and benefits for stakeholders long after the mine has ceased to exist.

Topics discussed will include:

  • Innovative concepts for productive land use after mining
  • Strategies and procedures for effective rehabilitation
  • Planning for mine closure before commencement
  • From cradle to cradle: ensuring our legacy is positive

Expert Speakers:

  • Alison Price, Managing Director, SoilCyclers
