Maximising Employee Performance in the METS world Webinar Series: Part 2 - Recruitment & Retention in Difficult Markets

Over the course of three webinars, Austmine’s Business Advisors will deliver key advice and explore real-world case studies to help small to medium businesses better understand the HR process and adopt strategies suitable for that size business.


Webinar 2 – Recruitment & Retention in Difficult Markets

Many METS companies are presently competing for the most difficult positions to fill in the country – capable engineers and experienced tradespeople.

This webinar seeks to identify, reinforce and build on the basic elements of employee recruitment and retention. We will utilise industry examples to provide guidance on how to stick to such a recruitment program, no matter the market noise and difficulties arising.

  • Job scope – should I go after a generalist and “hope for the best”, or seek the specialist skills I need from the market?

  • Ross Carter, Business Advisor - Entrepreneurs' Programme, Austmine

Ross has operated within the resources industry for over 30 years. While now a mining services specialist, solid operational experience in drill & blast, principal mining engineer and project managing pre-strip mining contracts has given Ross a sound understanding of the real needs and expectations of the Australian mining industry. With a BE (Mining) and a MBA, he presents a unique combination of mining qualifications and experience having successfully worked across a broad range of suppliers to deliver outstanding service solutions.

  • Scott Roberts, Director - Client Services & OD Consulting, Rubicor

Scott has considerable experience and expertise in many facets of managing Human resources, including recruitment, facilitation, leadership and management education. With extensive experience in PNG and outback Australia, he has a keen appreciation of cross-cultural issues at work. Scott has been with the Rubicor Group since 2006, he was appointed as Director Client Services and OD Consulting in 2013, before this he was Managing Director of Cadden Crowe (a Rubicor Company). Prior to joining Rubicor, Scott was the General Manager JDA an Australian and Papua New Guinean resource focused global recruitment and HR services firm.
