COVID-19 has changed the way companies operate across all
industries, and mining and METS are no different.
To help NSW METS and mining companies understand how
operations have and continue to change, Austmine is facilitating a webinar with
key industry leaders.
Facilitated by Austmine, and supported by the NSW Energy and
Resources Knowledge Hub, this session will feature presentations from
guest expert speakers Stephen Galilee, CEO, NSW Minerals Council, Andrew Rouse,
Chief Technology Officer, PYBAR and Abdul Jarrah, Executive General Manager
The session will then feature a panel segment which will
include Adrian Beer, CEO, METS Ignited and will be moderated by Chris Gibbs
Stewart, CEO, Austmine. The panel will discuss what has changed in the
industry, the current landscape and potential ramifications, challenges and
opportunities for METS companies both now and in the future.
This webinar is a unique opportunity to hear the latest
updates from industry leaders and put forward your questions in the Q&A
segment following the panel discussion.
Guest Speaker and Panellist: Stephen Galilee, CEO, NSW Minerals Council
Stephen Galilee was appointed CEO of the NSW Minerals Council in January
2012 and is a strong advocate for the mining industry and the mining
communities of NSW.
Prior to joining the NSW Minerals Council, Stephen worked in
senior roles in politics and government, including as an adviser to former
Prime Minister John Howard and as Chief of Staff to Mike Baird when NSW
Stephen also has experience in small business, family
business, and as a consultant advising major corporations in construction,
engineering and infrastructure.
Guest Speaker and Panellist: Andrew Rouse, Chief Technology
An MBA qualified Mining Engineer, Andrew has over 21 years’ experience in
underground metalliferous and open cut coal. His on-going focus is on
delivering industry leading, integrated management systems and technology
Throughout his career he has been intimately involved with
production reporting, tendering and mine planning. Andrew has extensive
experience in business intelligence and solution architecture. He has worked
across three significant JV’s as part of the owner’s team; BMA, Mount Thorley
Warkworth and Ulan, providing insight into how the industry’s major mining
houses operate at a senior level; BHP, Rio Tinto, Xstrata.
Guest Speaker and Panellist: Abdul Jarrah, Executive General
Manager Australia, Thiess
Abdul leads Thiess’ Australia & Pacific operations, developing a
performance-driven culture and commitment to collaborative, long-term client
relationships. Since joining CIMIC Group 17 years ago, Abdul has held a number
of leadership positions including MD/CEO with Habtoor Leighton Group
His national and international experience gives him a strong
understanding of the diverse demands of establishing and managing contracts and
associated corporate governance in a variety of country contexts. With an international
background in law and project management for major infrastructure projects, and
a proven ability to ensure strong and accountable governance for projects and
organisations, Abdul’s diverse capability is an asset to Thiess’ growing
business. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Science (Civil Engineering) and
post-graduate qualifications in Law from Australia and the United States of

Adrian is the Chief Executive Officer for METS Ignited. As a global industry
leader, he brings extensive experience in the application of technology to the
mining sector. Adrian is passionate about collaborative transformation,
business efficiency, and maximising the effectiveness of operations for the
benefit of all stakeholders.
With a technical background in mineral processing, Adrian’s
career spans project delivery, product technology strategy, small-scale
technology start-ups and mining operations. Most recently, Adrian has held
global executive strategy roles within two of the world’s largest industrial

Chris has 30 years of experience in international business, industry
development and general management. She has extensive experience in working with governments in
Australia and abroad to develop and deliver industry and economic development
programs. Chris has contributed to and authored several publications including
major industry reports, country specific business insights and international
trade and export handbooks.
As CEO of Austmine, Chris is firmly focused on delivering
value to the organisation’s members, creating opportunities and driving
strategic innovation and collaboration across the industry.
