International Mining Missions

Austmine's missions take Australian METS companies to prospective overseas mining markets for a week of site visits, meetings, networking events and briefings with leading mining companies, local suppliers, associations and government bodies.

Our missions are designed to give participants a deep understanding of the local mining market, procurement practices and project opportunities and aim to assist Australian METS in positioning their business as a potential supplier to mining operations around the globe. Austmine puts together a program to ensure the right meetings take place and that your company is introduced to a range of decision makers who are interested in potentially buying your products and services, ranging from senior level executives to technical personnel on site. Austmine often partners with Austrade, state governments and local associations in organising missions.

Mission Overview:

Following successful base and precious metals missions to Nevada in recent years, Austmine is pleased to launch our first Arizona Mining Mission.

Airzona is well established as the leading producer of copper in the United States, accounting for over 60% of copper produced in the US since 1970 (U.S. Geological Survey, 2019). Although Arizona is known for its copper production, there are a multitude of other metallic and industrial deposits in the region, including gold, silver, zinc, molybdenum, stone and sand.

There are over 380 active mines or development projects in the state, with significant mineral deposits for further exploration in the future. Major operators in the region include Rio Tinto/BHP, Freeport McMoRan, Grupo Mexico, ASARCO and KGHM.

The program for this mission will include a mix of mine site visits, head office meetings, presentation opportunities, networking events and market briefings. Austmine has put together a program to help you develop relationships with key mining companies, such as Rio Tinto, ASARCO and KGHM, along with major engineering firms and contractors, local associations, government and other suppliers.

Mine Description:

Resolution Copper project

A joint venture by Rio Tinto (55%) and BHP(45%), it is one of the largest undeveloped copper projects in the world and has the potential to become one of the world´s largest and most competitive copper mines. Resolution Copper Mining will use block panel cave mining and will be the deepest block cave (~2km deep) and one of the hottest underground mines in the world. This will be achieved by extending an existing shaft, developed for the historic Magma mine, from its current depth of 1.5km to 2.1km depth. This is a highly complex and challenging mining activity due to space restriction, potential excessive groundwater and poor ventilation. This work is expected to commence in CY2019. Resolution has an indicated and inferred resource of 1.78 billion tonnes at 1.53% copper. Once in production, the mine is expected to supply almost a quarter of US demand for the metal for 40 years.

What our attendees say

The Austmine Chilean Mission, that FloLevel Technologies joined in 2016, created major opportunities for our specialized process instrumentation to the worlds largest Copper producers. Typically the time to achieve this acceptance, from the clients, could be in years of developing relationships, but the Austmine mission was highly respected by the Chilean Mining Companies and therefore, relationship development between supplier and customer was expedited much faster.

Rob Stirling, Managing Director, FloLevel Technologies

I enjoyed the 2016 Russian mission. I learnt a great deal from the other participants attending, this was invaluable. When the mission wrapped up I was happy about the outcome in that I received very good interest but was left with the impression that the Russian market would be difficult to penetrate. However, in the 10 months following my visit, my company has done very well in selling software and products into the region. More than I could have imagined.
