Keeping track of stock on site and goods being forwarded is a must for any efficient mining operation. It’s vital to accurately track items and improve the Goods Out process with accurate reporting.
With Intov8’s game changing Corvus Warehousing module you can now significantly improve warehouse efficiency and boost productivity. This new technology is drawing the attention of mining sites worldwide. Recently, when a tier one coal mining company in the NSW Hunter Valley was struggling to keep track of the Goods Forwarding Advice at three different sites, they turned to Corvus. Previously, the company’s Goods Out Advice was spread across 20 different log books held by several people throughout the sites.
Lost in the system
Much of the company’s warehouse stock was not included in its SAP software program. There was no Material Code and no link from SAP or
any other system to locate key items including tooling, truck jacks or stands. While there is repair advice in SAP, it doesn’t relate to most of the “ghost items” (equipment that is not registered in a software system) on the site.
At times, the company’s warehouse was fielding up to 30 calls a week trying to locate a particular resource. Often, warehouse staff had no easy way to know which book had the item they were looking for, nor did they know who had that book. And often, when the right book was found, they couldn’t identify the signature of the person who signed out a particular item.
There was no real accountability. The company had no system in place that could accurately tell them where they could find an item that had left the site. With the Corvus Warehouse Module Intov8 have streamlined the entire process.
Get back on track with Corvus
To simplify the process and improve warehouse efficiency for the mining company, the team at Intov8 developed an automated solution with “one source of the truth” across multiple warehouses. With the Corvus Warehouse Module all data can now be tracked and controlled from one central point.
Multiple users at different security levels across the mining site still provide input, but now there is instant visibility on where each item is located. This has reduced the number of phone enquiries to virtually zero – saving valuable time and money. The software provides a tracking number that can be automatically linked with a transport service provider, so items can be located at all times.
Significant cost savings
The Corvus Warehouse Module is especially useful for site shutdown when it is important to track all goods that leave the site – in particular,
rotable spares. Other ghost items can be managed directly by the shutdown teams.
Now, when a person wants to send an item off site they simply call the warehouse and a tracking document is created instantly. The item to be shipped appears on the report and this can then be printed and attached to that item waiting for dispatch.
The end result … greater visibility, improved efficiency and ease of use. With Corvus Warehouse Module mining companies experience a
significant reduction in the number of lost items. For the Hunter Valley company, the new software has delivered significant cost savings.
When studied the site determined they were saving an equivalent of between 2-3 Full Time Employees time, allowing those people to attend to the more important aspects of their role rather than chasing up missing items. Corvus Warehouse Module can be seamlessly integrated into any system as a smart alternative to old fashioned manual warehouse procedures.
