Reduction of tailings moisture and intelligent transportation system to the dump

EXPANDE invites you to prequalify for a new challenge of BHP's Escondida Mine "Reduction of humidity in gravel and an intelligent transportation system to dumps".
Escondida Mine currently processes oxidized minerals with different mineralogies and qualities, which depend mainly on the clay and/or fine particles content. After passing through the primary crusher, the ores are sent to the stock pile from where the secondary crushing plant is fed in variable proportions to obtain the copper grade required by the process.
The proposed solutions must meet the following objectives:
– Reduce residual moisture from the leached ore.
– Determine online and in real time the moisture present in the material while it is dug out and/or transported through the tailings discharge system.
With this information it will be possible to act upon the rate of extraction and/or transport of tailings until it is unloaded into the dump. The scope of this challenge includes all kinds of solutions that meet one or both objectives and will be implemented in the process of reclaiming tailings, transport through belt systems and until its subsequent unload to the dump.
In addition, the solutions must not add workers to the area (FTEs) to avoid their exposure to accident risks; and also these must not decrease the production performance in tailings.
If prequalified, you'll be invited to participate in the BHP Open Innovation process, where you may be awarded a pilot contract with the mining company.
