Annual AusIMM/UNSW Special Speaker Event – Owen Hegarty

ANNUAL AUSIMM / UNSW SPECIAL SPEAKER EVENT - Owen Hegarty, Executive Chairman - EMR Capital; Chairman - Tigers Realm Group; Executive Vice Chairman - G Resources Group; Vice Chairman - Fortescue Metals Group, will be the Keynote Speaker at this networking event taking place next week.

Australian mining companies and professionals are more engaged with the developing markets in Asia and surrounds than ever before. Whether it be developing or operating local assets, company listings on foreign exchanges or working with foreign investors, the effective engagement with these markets is of great importance to our industry. Join us to hear Owen Hegarty share his significant experience in developing and operating projects throughout Asia and Russia, the opportunities presented and challenges faced by the Australian mining industry and its professionals in these regions and the growing importance for resource industry professionals to understand the role these markets play in our industry.

Owen Hegarty has some 40 years’ experience in the global mining industry, including 24 years with Rio Tinto where he headed Rio Tinto’s Asian and Australian copper and gold businesses. From the mid-1990’s, he led Oxiana Ltd from a junior explorer to a multi-billion dollar Asian and Australian explorer, developer and operator in base and precious metals. Owen is now Executive Chairman of EMR Capital – a Melbourne based private equity fund. He is also Chairman of Tigers Realm Group; Executive Vice Chairman of Hong Kong listed G-Resources Group, Vice Chairman of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd and non-executive Director of Tigers Realm Coal Ltd and Highfield Resources Ltd. He is a Former Director of the AusIMM and a member of various Government and industry resources advisory groups.
