Assistant Minister Laundy Opens Hedweld

The Assistant Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Craig Laundy helped open the Hedweld Engineering facility in the Hunter Valley this week.

The advanced manufacturing facility designs and manufactures specialised mining and safety equipment, and was officially opened on Wednesday 7 September.

The new plant received $2 million in government funding through the Manufacturing Transition Programme, which accounted for 25 per cent of the Hedweld's overall $8 million expansion costs.

Mr Laundy said the new facility housed the latest in advanced manufacturing technology including cutting-edge machinery and robotics which will increase production capacity and enable the company to diversify into new sectors such as the agribusiness, defence, construction, civil engineering and underground mining markets.

“Hedweld has invested in a world-class manufacturing facility using the world’s most advanced robotic metal processing technology and equipment”, Mr Laundy said.

Mr Laundy also said the expansion would enable Hedweld to increase its competitiveness, create skilled job opportunities for the Hunter Valley and increase exports.
