Congratulations to the Winners of San Francisco

Our second international hackathon of 2016 and first one ever in Silicon Valley

#UnearthedSF last weekend witnessed several teams successfully tackling challenges from BHP Billiton and Caterpillar, overcoming their constrained knowledge of the mining industry. 

1st Prize: Team Miner

Team: Logan Suguitan, Mark Weiss, Vaibhav Bhandari
Challenge: BHP Billiton - Predict Delays and Optimize the World's Largest Heavy Haul Railway
Prototype: A data integration pipeline that enables locomotive sensor data to be aggregated, queried, analyzed, and distributed. This capability enables a unified communication channel to improve prioritization and an open API for domain experts to easily
perform analysis and distribute results.


2nd Prize & People's Choice Award: Team Hermes

Team: Eric Hsieh, Jeremy Beal, Paulo Arantes
Challenge: Caterpillar - Develop Innovative Approaches to Assess,
Predict, and Improve Operator Performance
Prototype: A simple-to-understand feedback tool for inexperienced haul truck drivers
for assessment of their own against benchmark operational performance.


Young Innovator Award: Great Mines Think Alike

Team: Asjed Hussain, Zachary Thomas, Rushil Ram

Challenge: Caterpillar - Develop Innovative Approaches to Asses,
Predict, and Improve Operator Performance
Prototype: Predictive hazard warning system to haul truck operators
with reporting and ranking features.
