Mechvac Show Capabilities with Turnkey Crib Leaching Facility

Mechvac recently completed the installment of a Turnkey Crib Leaching Facility for Bureau Veritas at BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam operation. MECHVAC were engaged by Bureau Veritas to design and install this facility from the concept design stage. The crib steel work components and associated platforms, tanks and pipework were manufactured at MECHVAC’s Pooraka workshop.

The project was a full test of MECHVAC’s capabilities in turnkey project delivery. The contract included project management of a building extension to house the facility and then the manufacture and installation of the Leach Crib facility, pipework and plant services. Extensive use was made of super duplex stainless steel construction.

CUSTOMER BENEFITS AND PROJECT OUTCOMES:

  • Large scale pilot plant to test feasibility of Olympic Dam future expansions
  • Turnkey project delivery
  • In full on time delivery
  • On budget, no cost overruns
  • Zero lost time injuries
  • Less than 0.5% non-conformances
Such was the success of the project, that Mechvac Engineering were awarded a High Commendation in the Ocean Partners Commercial Achievement Award Category at the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) Resources Industry Dinner. The honourable Jing Lee, Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Trade and Investment, attended the awards ceremony and congratulated Mechvac on their achievement. She stated, "You impressed the judges with your Heap Leach Technology demonstration plant collaboratively designed, built and installed for BHP Billiton Olympic Dam and Bureau Veritas. Your achievements are commendable and I wish to thank you for making a significant contribution and commitment to our state's resource industry".

Clint Bowker, Senior Project Lead, Bureau Veritas Minerals, was also full of praise for Mechvac following their partnership. He stated, "Mechvac delivered the project under considerable time pressure safely, on budget and to design, an achievement given the time constraints. Final commissioning and hand-over of the facility was completed only two weeks behind schedule. The project was well executed and we are happy with the quality and finish of the facility, both with the manufactured products and plant fit-out."

Mechvac would like to thank their partners in the project, Bureau Veritas, and look forward to contributing to the sectors growth into the future. If you would like to contact Mechvac about our engineering services, see our website or call 61 8 8262 1244.
