Monash Engineering Interns Bring Their Advanced Technical Skills to Industry Projects

Throughout the year Monash can offer both program interns (engineering graduates across multiple disciplines) and Monash STEM interns (final-year students) to assist on industry projects as part of their program or degree subjects.

Internships are a full-time or part-time placement when an intern is offered a role in a team, under supervision, and talked through tasks to complete and add value to work projects. It provides an opportunity for a student to enter the market and build their learning, contributing to company projects and developing their application of technical skills in the workplace.

There are a range of different internship options for a company to tap into. One option is a 12-week full-time placement which Professional Year (PY) students seek. A different type of internship is a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) internship which ranges from either full-time 4-week blocks or part-time 12-week blocks for students who are currently enrolled in their degree and participating in industry placements as part of their course to build their skills prior to graduating.

Interns can with research projects or join project teams to work on site and to gain vocational experience to get them one step closer to working in industry. Often they bring specialised skills and knowledge, sometimes they also come equipped with overseas experience. They have been pre-screened by Monash for a committed attitude and adaptable mindset.

Both WIL and PY internships have no requirement to pay the intern due to the experience built into the modules of the program they complete with Monash College. All interns are insured by MPP and there are no other fees associated with hosting an intern. Our internships are compliant with the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), as they are vocational placements within a recognised education course. Our students do not pay any additional fees for our placement services as these are part of their course fees.
