Volunteer Mentors Needed
WHAT IS the City East Mentor Program?
The City East Community College is meeting an unmet need that supports the integration of skilled migrants into the workforce and enables them to have career continuity.
Initiatives like ours help qualified, hard-working migrants from diverse and rich cultural backgrounds contribute to Australia economically, politically and socially. Often highly skilled migrant engineers, facing significant costs financially and personally to come here are then left on the scrap heap, driving cabs or unemployed.
Our Vision is to provide better support and opportunities for skilled migrants and refugees across industry types and in turn to provide skilled professionals the opportunity to mentor and empower migrants to strive for their potential. Mentoring is designed to be mutually beneficial and fulfilling.
OUR TARGET: FULL PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT
You and your peers at Austmine, could make a real difference in a migrant's transition into professional life in Australia and be a part of adding value to your community. By far, engineers make up the larger proportion of our Mentee participants.
As Australia moves towards a greater service focus in the Engineering space, the extensive skills that these migrants bring will be vital to the development and growth of METS organisations as they expand into global markets.
Our Mentees are qualified professionals in a range of areas, including but not limited to Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Chemical Engineers and other key fields.
“It will forever remain a major contributor behind my success and achievements.
I look forward to the day I can do the same for someone else.” former CE Mentor Program Mentee.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
- Mentees are assessed to meet specific criteria in terms of work eligibility, professional qualifications and English competency.
- Volunteer professionals are matched to share information, give guidance, recognise potential, challenge and inspire participants to achieve their employment goals. Mentees gain a range of practical skills for the Australian workplace culture.
- The Australian economy benefits from the knowledge-sharing of diverse and global professionals who lend new insights to industry, exploring broader frontiers, impacting companies into the future
