Donhad Support CEEC to Improve Grinding Efficiency
Extracting a desired grade ore from a complex ore body is a multifaceted task. A fine balance must be struck between achieving desired throughput and product size with a unique mix of ore and grinding media. Working closely with a grinding media partner is key to accomplishing improved grinding outcomes. Donhad, the most recent company to sponsor CEEC, collaborates directly with its clients to ensure they meet their targeted results. The recently released high carbon grinding media is the result of this close work with clients.

Donhad Pty Ltd is a privately owned company founded in Bassendean, Western Australia in 1965. The company manufactures forged steel grinding balls, engineering forgings and a range of specialised fasteners used by mining and mineral processing industries. Donhad has three manufacturing sites in Australia to provide a reliable supply of top quality grinding balls.
The advent of increased grinding media competition - including overseas producers, meeting customer demands for lower cost and higher productivity, steel prices, exchange rates and lowering minerals commodity prices have all played key roles in Donhad’s focus on innovation in the grinding media industry.
CEEC is a not-for-profit global company whose mission is to accelerate knowledge transfer in the field of energy-efficient comminution (crushing and grinding). CEEC aims to raise awareness of beneficial alternative comminution strategies with the objective of improving shareholder earnings, achieving lower processing costs and achieving energy productivity in the mining sector.
A significant CEEC undertaking is the CEEC energy curve. It is a unique open access tool mining operators may use to establish a baseline of their current processing efficiency. Improved processing strategies can be assessed against this baseline. Regular assessments may be used to illustrate processing efficiency, in turn building a financial business case for the introduction of alternative processing strategies. The CEEC energy curve is offered to industry without a participation charge, due to the generous support of CEEC’s sponsors.
CEEC is the acronym for the Coalition for Energy Efficient Comminution. CEEC was established by a visionary group of mining industry leaders, who recognised the need to provide a platform for effective communication of the latest technical findings on efficient comminution practices.
Extensive research and improved engineering design has established that a range of improved blasting, crushing and grinding techniques may lower project costs, and improve energy productivity. These include relatively straight forward strategies such as removing waste material before size reduction, a better combination of grinding technologies and targeting larger grind sizes where mineralogy allows.
