ExplORE Philippines 2015 - Austrade Manila Trade Mission
The Philippines is the world’s fifth most mineralised country, with the third-largest deposits of gold, fourth-largest of copper, fifth of nickel and sixth of chromite. The value of mineral resources is estimated to be around one trillion US dollars, but this source of wealth remains largely untapped. At the end of 2013, only three per cent of the Philippines - around 958 thousand hectares of land - was covered by 712 mining tenements. There are approximately 38 metallic mines operating in the Philippines and at least 20 companies involved in exploration and construction projects.
In July 2012, President Aquino signed Executive Order 79. Executive Order 79 attempted to address major issues for the industry including: exclusion zones; revenue sharing; consistency between local and national planning laws; indigenous rights; and mining safety standards. The uncertainty around these issues continues to hamper new project development and it is unlikely that the regulatory environment will improve in the medium-term.
Despite the challenges faced by the Philippine mining industry the total metallic mineral production grew by 38% in 2014. Operating gold mining companies like Philex, Philsaga, Masbate, Benguet and Lepanto Mines, collectively increased the gold production by 7%. While nickel companies like Nickle Asia, SR Metals, CTP Mining, collectively increased nickel production by 103%.

MISSION EXPLORE PHILIPPINES 2015
Austrade 24 June 2015 ExplORE Mining Philippines 2015 2
SITE Skills Training Philippines: The Mining Centre of Excellence located in the campus provides training, verification of competence and human resource solutions to the mining, construction and energy industries.
The campus includes a prototype of a 240 metre underground mining tunnel complete with heavy equipment simulator and a downstream processing section. The campus also offers courses in mechanical, electrical, automotive and camp services catering.
The visit to Site Skills Training will include a tour of the prototype underground mine site and will showcase the equipment and technology used in an underground mine. Joining the group visit will be engineers from the five Philippine underground mining companies, as well as mining engineers from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. This will allow mission participants to engage in discussions regarding their product and service offerings.
